HCDSB grade 12 students experienced School Within a College (SWAC) in their 2nd semester during the 2016-2017 school year. From February to June, 2017, students in the program experienced college life at the Mohawk-Stoney Creek campus, taking courses in the trades, and obtaining credits towards their Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
The program is an excellent fit for students wishing to explore a career in the trades, a college pathway, or students who are behind in credits and are interested in exploring hands-on studies. Through SWAC, students are able to learn theory in the classroom, combined with practical, experiental application in welding and carpentry shops, all located on a college campus.
SWAC is Coming Back!
SWAC will be back for its second consecutive year in the winter of 2018! Grade 11 or 12 students interested in taking the following courses: Intro to Construction and Trade Calculations in the SWAC program are asked to contact their school office directly for more information and registration requirements. The deadline to submit applications is November 30, 2017.
This program was a blessing to me because at my high school there was only wood-shop programs, so it gave me the opportunity to get hands on experience with a field I was not familiar with. I’m very happy I was given this opportunity to meet new people and experience a school away from school. – Student experience in the SWAC Program
